Champ1

To the ones that been at the old riding club. We lost an OLD friend today June 5th 08. Champ was on the front line Stall 8. (About half way down). He was a 38 year old gelding owned by Jerry Kesner, he did not like to be bothered by anyone. Lisa Dickson took care of him along with her two girls Silk and Little Squaw. When we moved out on our own piece about 2 years ago and we were asked by Jerry if Champ could go with to have a place to roam and retire out his days. We built a setup that would house all three of the horses to play and rest together. Champ was in heaven out here having two girls to try to catch. ( I think he felt like a young stud again). Little Squaw and Champ were to peas in a pod together while Silk would try to pick a fight with Champ. Squaw would step in and protect Champ from Silk most of the time..
We had Champ walking all 4 acres most of the time and he could do whatever he wanted. He was an ex-roping horse back in his days as a header and it took a toll on his body as he got older. We would have to flip him over if he laid on the wrong side so he could get up in the morning, it still would take 15 – 30 minutes to get up, but he was a proud horse when he got up. You could see it in his eyes…

Lisa did a lot of work keeping him as strong as we could, we have learned a lot with champ as to how to take care of an older horse. We even had our neighbor next door sort of adopt Champ, He would come over every week day and feed Champ at 12:30 sharp, If Will was not there on time Champ would let him know it. But Champ was a push over for carrots, It would always work.   Thank god for internet. … A lot of people was saying to put him down because it was a lot of work till they could see how strong willed he was.  Dr. Banney seemed to take him under his wing and did help out when needed…

Today was the last day we would have to chance to enjoy having him around. He may have known it was time to go. He ate every last bit of food in the feeder over the night, He would lay down most nights to take a load off his sore arthritic legs, but this time he could not get up for anything. We tried every trick in the book but we could see he could not get up even after flipping him over two different times. It was a hard call to make but it was the only one left. Call Jerry.
This was why we brought him out 2 years ago, to retire in heaven. And that is what it feels like out here when everyone comes out to visit….

Champ will be here forever along with another old friend from the club….Navaho.

COUNTY SUPPLY AND THE SIERRA VISTA RIDING CLUB

We are still on their list to recieve 5% of all sales that they make if the cunstomer will write in "SVRC" under "Customer Care Code". They will mail out a check on a monthly basis each time we reach $50. They revewed their records and have found that in the past 1 1/2 years, only a very few folks are remembering to put in the customer care code. We should be recieving a check for about $74 this month. Please spread the word. Although it is not a lot of money, it is certainly easy to get. Country supply has good prices to start with on their products.

This site will soon feature a "Maintenance Request Form."

To help maintain your 'discounted' status as a member/boarder this site will soon indicate the many ways you can accumulate points and have them recorded. The "HONOR" system will be in effect. There may be a form to help report hours worked. We are also hoping to create a system so that you can monitor your hours. Disclaimer: these are thoughts discussed at our Jan. meeting. If you were not there then perhaps you missed earning a POINT!
